Foundation Overview: Tierra’s mission is to “work continuously to increase opportunities for people with disabilities to participate, contribute, and succeed as productive and valued citizens of our community. In addition, we will communicate, educate and advocate to increase our community’s understanding and appreciation for the capabilities of the people we serve.” Our vision is that, “a strong and vibrant community is one in which all of its members contribute their strengths and assets to the common good. Tierra’s role in our community is to empower people with disabilities to fulfill their potential and desire to become productive citizens who are accepted and valued for the contributions they make to the economic, civic, and cultural vitality of our community. We are actively working toward the day when people with any type of disability are fully accepted in our community – as neighbors, co-workers, and contributors to our society.”

Internship Overview: Non-profits have much in common with their for-profit cousins; balance sheets, accounts payable & receivable, payroll, etc. As good stewards of the foundation’s resources, the Finance department has to make sure that every penny is spent wisely and properly accounted for. This is an opportunity to learn how a mid-sized enterprise operates, working with every department, helping them to reach their goals. The intern who is selected for this position will have much to learn, while she/he contributes to the foundation’s mission. This requires a minimum 150-hour commitment and carries no offer or guarantee of employment with the organization.

Compensation: This internship is unpaid and compensated with course credit from a college or university. This internship does not include medical benefits. While working with us, the intern will have access to our employee entertainment discount program, monthly safety snack incentives, special employee events, eligible for credit union membership, and will be provided a supportive learning environment.

•Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on budget forecasting and analysis.
•Assisting our Accounting supervisor, assisting with data entry and analysis
•Helping our Payroll Administrator with payroll processing

To be considered for this position, applicants should have a sincere desire to learn about how a mid-sized non-profit operates and manages to stay “in the black,” so the mission can continue. Students pursuing degrees in business, human resources, accounting, economics or other business disciplines are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have good computer skills with knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and be able to use their own personal laptop. Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to commit to at least 15 hours per week, 3 days per week. Applicants will need to be able to pass a DOJ LiveScan background check and a physical exam which includes a TB test, both paid for by Tierra del Sol.
