DescriptionUniversal Cargo is an international freight forwarder located in Culver City, California. We handle international import and export, ocean and air shipments for our clients.
The Accounting Assistant position supports the company's accounting function by managing accounts payable invoices, document control, data entry and basic accounting tasks. This is great opportunity to advance for quick learners and those with some basic accounting and/or accounts payable experience.
Additionally, the Accounting Assistant will support the Freight Cashier in the preparation of freight payments by check, bank wire and ACH processes, ultimately developing skills needed to independently back up this position when the Freight Cashier is unavailable.
This position offers a part time schedule with flexible work days and hours (during the normal business day).
ResponsibilitiesManage documents related to accounts payable, management of invoices and assist with data entry in a highly detailed database.
Back up the daily Freight Cashier function
Support senior accounting staff in duties as assigned
Assist in the analysis of shipment profit and loss and maintenance of costs associated to specific shipments.
RequirementsCandidate must have completed Accounting courses through Intermediate Accounting and is preferably a junior or senior, actively enrolled in upcoming college courses in business.
Must be extremely detail oriented and analytical in thought processes. Basic MS Office skills are required (Excel, Word, and Outlook are critical).
The ideal person is flexible in accepting assignments, accepts responsibility and strives to learn new skills on a regular basis.
