Description

The Finance department is seeking an intern to with various central accounting duties for the Finance Department.

Position Description: The Center is a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is computer savvy, deadline and detail oriented, highly flexible and a self-starter. The position reports to the Controller.

Accounting responsibilities:
• Assisting with vendor validation and documentation
• Supporting Accounts Payables functions
• Post journal entries
• Assist with audits
• Assisting with general ledger account reconciliations
• Providing support for year –end accounting functions and audit preparation
• Perform accounting and clerical functions to support Controller and VP or Finance
• Research, track and resolve accounting problems
• Compile and sort invoices

Requirements

Intern will gain and/or improve upon his or her:
• General communication skills
• Knowledge of accounting operations and reconciliation processes
• Experience working in a team environment
• Understanding QuickBooks
• Understanding of inner workings of nonprofit organization
• General customer service skills

Minimum Internship Qualifications:
Only candidates entering their junior or senior year in an undergraduate degree program, recent graduates or graduate school students will be considered:


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting majors
• Familiarity with QuickBooks or other accounting software
• Excellent writing and verbal communications skills(Strong interpersonal skills)
• Demonstrable personal interest in civil and human rights
• Professional office, email and phone etiquette
• Database experience helpful, but not required
• Must be friendly, outgoing and have a passion for service
• Strong attention to detail
• Preference will be given to college juniors and seniors and those seeking academic credit
• Local students preferred

Time: The hours and time commitment are flexible (between the hours of 9am-5pm) but to be set between the supervisor and the internship candidate prior to the start of the internship. No more than 15 hours per week on average.
