The bookkeeper intern will work directly with the accounting and finance team for the assignment of responsibilities and projects as it relates to the firm’s clients. The internship supervisor(s) and other department team members will be available to clarify questions, provide guidance on projects, and include the intern in meetings to discuss weekly goals and accomplishments in addition to providing the intern an overview of the firm and role necessary to accomplish the objectives for this position. The intern must be able to understand numbers as concepts in order to evaluate the accuracy of their reporting. The Calas Group will focus on building skills that include bookkeeping, financial management, communication, presentation, project management, flexibility and technology. This position will work in the corporate office located in Coral Gables, Florida or another designated location throughout the U.S.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the supervisor and/or other department managers this intern position will train and learn the following:
• Set up and use QuickBooks and other firm approved technology software, tools
and information systems effectively for client accounts.
• Learn how to think critically and act logically to solve problems and make
decisions through communication and teamwork.
• Learn how to develop a positive attitude toward change and acquire the skills
and knowledge to multi-task on numerous projects to meet expected deadlines.
• Develop bookkeeping skills through taking ownership and responsibility of
projects through working in teams.
• Collaborate with accounting professionals to provide monthly financial
statements and draft financial reports.
• Learn how to manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, check registers,
bank account reconciliations and perform journal entries, accruals and
month-end and year-end close activities and audit assistance.
• Assist in compliance and reporting requirements.
• Learn positive customer service skills through effectively collaborating with
clients, vendors and other financial service professionals internally and
externally.
• Special projects as assigned by firm management.
• Must be willing to travel up to 10% as assigned for possible shadowing
opportunities.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time at a computer terminal and bend,
stoop and lift up to 25 lbs.

Requirements

Graduate of high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and currently attending a college or university to pursue coursework in business, accounting, bookkeeping or finance OR recent college graduates and a minimum of up to one (1) year of bookkeeping experience may be considered for this role. Junior or Senior preferred.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices and ability to analyze information.
Proficiency using MS Office products especially Excel.
Must possess excellent English communication skills with the ability to speak and write clearly and informatively and able to read and interpret information.
Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
Must be organized and a motivated self-starter.
Must clear a background check and drug test for it will be required for this position.
Must be able to work additional hours, including weekends, during peak seasons as needed.
