Bello Machre is a nonprofit organization with the mission to provide a lifetime of loving care, opportunity and guidance to individuals with developmental disabilities. We operate 57 homes throughout the community in Central Maryland where 3-4 individuals live full time with a live-in “Family Living Director.” Our Residential Department oversees all home operations and consists of a team of Program Directors, each with their own caseload of homes. Interns in the Residential Services department have the opportunity to work along side Program Directors and assist in the completion of their many job functions. Interns will be exposed to the many tasks that go into providing quality care to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Please note: Qualifying students are eligible to recieve a $500 stipend upon the satisfactory completion of 120 internship hours. This stipend is made possible by the Kathy and Jerry Wood Foundation. This position is otherwise unpaid.


Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
-completing individual satisfaction surveys
- assessing and assisting with the implementation of policy
-actively seeking ways in which to improve the quality of life of individuals we serve
- running monthly house visits including direct interaction with individuals, reviewing IP books, daily log books, behavior plans and complete required documentation
-meet with individuals to assess likes/dislikes and update profiles


Basic Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. In addition to the requirements below, the intern must be at least 18 years of age, have a nurturing and caring demeanor, and have a genuine interest in supporting the independence of those we serve.
Education and Experience
In order to qualify for the stipend, the intern must be enrolled full time in a program of higher education, and must be in good academic standing. The individual should have completed fundamental classes such as writing and math.
The ideal candidate will be exhibit proficiency in basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, etc.) as well as knowledge of computer processes and basic troubleshooting. The candidate would be enthusiastic and capable of working independently.

Training, Licenses and Certifications
There are no specific licensure requirements for this position. Training to be completed upon hire will be provided at the expense of Bello Machre, Inc.

Interns may be required to work varying schedules and/or in other environments based on the needs of the position. Intermittent local travel is required.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the intern is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, and reach with hands and arms. The intern may need to lift at least 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the intern may be in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to the home, various offices, and out in the community.

Background Check and Drug Testing
Applicants must be willing to submit to a background check and drug testing. Due to the nature of this work, all applicants must pass both the background check and drug testing to qualify for the internship.
