Description

Philadelphia RowHome Magazine is looking for a hard working, independent student who is ready to break into the business of sales, marketing, writing, social media and advertising. Be prepared to experience all of these things with us!

Philadelphia RowHome Magazine is a South Philadelphia based magazine with a devoted fan base and client list. We're looking to expand into other areas of the city. You should love the industry and want to grow with us. You'll need to work independently to build a book in key territories like East Passyunk, Center City, South Street, Manayunk and other areas of the city.

Commission will be given on any ad sales you make.

Whoever applies must be willing to help out in ALL areas of the magazine. We are a small team who help each other out and roles overlap. Your main roles for this summer would be to:

-Make follow up phone calls to our clients and story subjects
-Assist in scheduling photo shoots and confirm info with our clients
-Post on social media
-Write/compile information for our print issues
-Help us promote our magazine and any upcoming events
-Help us look for new ad clients, share our media kit with them, and seal ad deals (commission will be given on any leads you find and secure).
-Write blog posts (you may be also asked to attend press-related events and cover them for our blogs)

Responsibilities

You will be a major part of our team- always on your toes to brainstorm, network, and keep RowHome Magazine in front of our readers. As a small magazine staff, you will take on many roles and help out wherever we need it the most on any given day.

You will be responsible for contacting prospective clients and explaining what we can offer them- ad space, editorial, partnerships, etc. You can do a lot via phone or email, but it's very important that you have a car to meet face to face with clients as well.

You will spend time researching new businesses, restaurants, contacts, events, etc that would be a good fit for our magazine and reach out to them with our media kit to secure ad sales.

You must have strong writing skills. We'll need help with magazine editorial and blog posts- covering events, writing press releases, interviews, small business spotlights, etc.

You will be required to attend RowHome related events to meet with the people on our team, and our friends/neighbors who read and subscribe to the magazine.

You will help us with ongoing projects.

Managing invoices and following up with clients for payments may also be a part of this position. We all help each other out here, as we are a small staff...so roles may overlap from time to time. Be ready to jump in and help out with all aspects of the magazine if needed.

Requirements

-Must have a car or be able to get around via public transportation (as we are based in South Philly, that's where we may need you from time to time)
-Strong writing skills (samples will be required)
-Know how to use Google Docs and Google Spreadsheets
-Must know Philadelphia very well
-Must be very familiar with using Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook
-Must be friendly and willing to speak to our various clients on the phone
-Must be knowledgeable about events in the city, weekly/daily happenings, keep on top of trends in the city (hot spots, new venues/business openings, etc).
-Be responsible
-Be reliable
-Be a people person with a great personality
-Comfortable with working independently
- Previous experience in a similar position
