Organic Farm internship in ARBookmark This
St. Joseph Farm

North Little Rock, AR
DescriptionSt. Joseph Farm is looking for enthusiastic interns for the fall growing season. Each intern will be working approximately 40+ hours a week on the CSA farm, at the farm stand, and helping prepare for and run the month-long Farm Festival in October.
St. Joseph Farm is a 63-acre farm located in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The goals of the farm and related nonprofit (Farm & Food Innovation Center) are to provide access to fresh produce to under-served and limited resource communities as well as teach the public about sustainable agriculture. On the farm, we practice Carbon Negative Farming, which reduces the amount of carbon emissions put out from agriculture. Interns will learn about this method through daily work and in a classroom setting. Interns might be asked to teach about this method to tour groups.
The main intern farm duties will include sowing, transplanting, harvesting, packaging, and marketing vegetables. Other farm jobs like fence building and brush clearing will also be required. Interns will work directly with the Farm Manager each day and with volunteers. In October, school groups and the public will be visiting the farm five days a week and interns will be helping to teach and run the fall Farm Festival.
Interns are expected to have some knowledge of organic/sustainable farming, but extensive knowledge is not required. Experience on an organic farm is a plus. Space is limited for these positions, but all are encouraged to apply.
Compensation for approximately three months of work will include a private or shared room onsite (as well as a shared kitchen, bathroom, and lounge area) and daily meals. Each intern will be paid $100 a month and will potentially have opportunities to earn income during the Farm Festival. Additionally, each week will have dedicated class time to allow interns to ask questions and learn more about our farming techniques. Ideally, by the end of the internship, each participant will be able to complete a self-guided "legacy project" to the farm that speaks to his or her interests in sustainable agriculture.
The internships will run from early/mid-August to mid-November. Dates can be flexible.
If interested, please submit a resume and cover letter to the Operations Director, Sierra Fowler, at email@example.com. Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
