Description

We are a small, urban, organic farm in Saint Augustine Beach, FL. We are looking for someone willing to help us on our farm a few hours during the week and also be able to drive to work as a vendor at the Riverside Arts Market every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in downtown Jacksonville. We grow a variety of produce on our property located on Anastasia Island. Being that we are a small, urban farm, we grow a lot of smaller, unique produce such as microgreens, baby greens, herbs, plant starts, miniaturized vegetables and edible flowers. We are passionate about organics, therefore we grow without chemicals, pesticides or the use of GMO seeds. The bulk of what we grow is sold at farmers markets, which is where we need the most help -- getting someone experienced enough and passionate enough to sell our product during these events once a week. We also service local restaurants and conduct routine deliveries.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include routine watering of plants, assisting with building garden beds, sowing microgreen trays, harvesting microgreen trays, cutting herbs, harvesting vegetables, some heavy lifting (40 lb. bags of soil, tent, tables, etc.) , composting, raking leaves, weeding the yard, germination, greenhouse rotation... basically learning how we do things: how we grow, what we grow, who we are and a lot of stuff about organic gardening.

Requirements

I don't require farm experience because what we do is entirely different anyway, but I do ask for someone who is legitimately interested in organic, urban gardening culture. This is a pretty cool, interesting occupation so intern must be willing to learn and follow directions. Intern must have their own transportation and be able to transport our stuff to and from the Riverside Arts Market in Jacksonville Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Reimbursement for gas possible and potential for this position to become commission-based, meaning we could offer intern a percentage of what goods are sold at the market.) I need someone willing to take time to learn how to follow our instructions and become properly fluent with our product in order to explain it thoroughly to customers. Must be willing to work hard at times but also genuine, professional, courteous and friendly. We anticipate working with us on our farm to be a fun, fulfilling experience, so please don't apply if you don't have the right attitude.
