DescriptionThe National Museum of American Illustration (NMAI) is the first national museum devoted exclusively to American illustration artwork. The NMAI is located in Newport, Rhode Island, on historic Bellevue Avenue at Vernon Court, designed by the noted Gilded Age architecture firm of Carrère & Hastings. The Museum's collection contains original works by such noted American illustrators as Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, J. C. Leyendecker, N.C. Wyeth, Howard Pyle, Jessie Willcox Smith, Violette Oakley, and over 150 other luminary illustrators.
The Internship position is to assist with visitors and tour groups, admissions and gift shop operations, during the Spring and Summer vacation periods. Given the variety of tasks taking place within a Museum, applicants from many areas of scholastic concentration, not solely-art related, are also encouraged to apply.
ResponsibilitiesPart Time NMAI Internship involves assisting with museum admissions and Museum shop functions at the NMAI. Guiding tours, interacting with the public, answering questions about the Museum’s buildings, grounds, and the collection. Operating the cash register at the admissions desk and in the Museum shop, supervising the galleries and museum shop area.
Requirements-The ideal candidate will have great enthusiasm and interest in art, art history, illustration and American culture and civilization.
-Candidate should be neat in appearance and is expected to dress appropriately for a Museum (public) environment.
-Must be comfortable working with the public and on a team in a fast-paced environment.
-Must possess a flexible schedule and be willing to work late on occasion, or come in early if needed, and to assist with events held at the Museum.
-Familiarity with computers (Apple) and computer graphics is a plus.
