Description

The Target Gallery, national exhibition space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, offers two unpaid internships each semester for students of Art, Art History, Arts Management, or some equivalent. Interns receive behind the scenes experience of working in a gallery setting as well as class credit. The Spring 2017 internship will begin late January and continue to beginning- mid May.

Responsibilities

The gallery director will work with the interns to create a focus or project for each intern to complete during their internship along with other necessary gallery duties to include but not limited to helping with installation, take down of exhibitions, sales, and so on. Some projects/focuses in the past have included creating an exhibition plan, assisting with marketing and promotion of exhibitions and special events, managing Target Gallery’s social media accounts, working on our annual fundraising exhibition, developing special programs, workshops, and more.

The intern will be required to work at least 2 days a week with one day being a weekend day for at least 16 hours a week. The gallery director will work with the interns on scheduling so as not to interfere with their class and work schedules. Art Center hours are 10am-6pm daily and Thursdays until 9pm. Once a month we have our 2nd Thursday Art Night and the intern will be required to work that event and any other additional special events that may take place during their internship period.

Requirements

This internship requires that the student be responsible, ability to multitask , show initiative, good work ethic, a team player, and have a great attitude. The ability to work on MAC computers and familiarity with social networks a plus. Also, preferred candidate need to be familiar with Excel programs. Interns must feel comfortable talking about the work at the exhibit and handling potential sales. Candidates must be seeking class credit.
