DescriptionUnpaid internship. This is a unique opportunity to work with a growing non-profit organization to learn the process of building an organization from the executive point of view. The intern will serve as the assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Directors and assist in developing the Board of Directors; develop the organizational structure; and develop the strategic plan.
The 7 Cities Outreach Saddle Club Inc. is led by CEO Anthony Hooper who has spent the last ten years working with youth services and the school systems in the Hampton Roads area to educate and reprogram troubled youth. The program has been instrumental in providing an alternate way of life and choices for youth. The program provides educational and therapeutic services to reach youth in the Hampton Roads 7 Cities area with and without behavior and emotional problems. Currently the program services groups of 15-20 students from the Hampton Roads 7 Cities Area at the 7 Cities Ranch once a week for a full day of activities during the school year and for three months during the summer for weekly units designed to develop communication skills, coping skills, discipline, focus, responsibility, and accountability. We are a growing organization and we are in the process of developing a more robust organizational infrastructure and strategic plan.
The 7 Cities Ranch is located on 46 acres of fields surrounded by waterways and woods in Suffolk VA. The ranch houses five horses and access to Lake Prince and surrounding woods. The ranch setting offers exposure to ranch life and traditional outdoor activities. The students visit the ranch on Saturdays during the school year and during the week days of the summer for participation in equine maintenance, horseback riding, archery, ranch maintenance, academics, sports, and games. The program includes overnight events that include camping, pitching tents, starting and tending a campfire, and cooking over an open fire.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare materials for the Board of Directors' meetings
Attend monthly board meetings
Assist in writing the business plan, strategic plan to include the marketing, financial, administrative, and programming strategies
Assist in developing the goals and objectives for the board committes
RequirementsStrong problem solving, brainstorming, organizational, interpersonal, writing, and oral skills
