DescriptionPosition: Intern at Della HQ - two positions available
Location: Hohoe, Ghana
Duration: 6 month commitment
Compensation: Housing at the Della headquarters, international health insurance and all in-country travel will be provided. We ask that all interns pay for their flight, visa fees and minimal monthly living expenses.
About: We are looking for two dedicated, creative, resourceful individuals who believe in the Della Mission and who are committed to help develop the business in Ghana. Overall management, problem solving skills and an understanding of business operations is necessary. Also, the sensitivity to cultural differences and an understanding of work ethic in a developing country is a must.
ResponsibilitiesDuties & Responsibilities:
Assist with Operations Management: Della has two U.S. Operations Managers working in Hohoe and they need daily assistance. Setting weekly goals for our team of women; making sure they meet the goals; helping them problem solve how to reach deadlines & figuring out other ways to improve production capacity; make sure employees arrive to work on time and have good work ethic; help the women train new employees how to make the products, etc.
Product Development: As Della grows we are constantly looking for new products to bring to the market. Product development includes: sourcing new materials, textiles, working closely with seamstresses to develop new products and communicating with the team in the U.S. by sending detailed email updates and photographs. Product development includes both accessory and clothing development. A basic understanding of sewing and pattern making is a plus.
Quality Control: Make sure all the products produced are all the same size, work properly and do not have any defects; also find a way to train the women to do their own quality control once an order has been produced
Miscellaneous: Keeping track of inventory, fabric inventory, sending shipments to the US, sourcing fabric from Accra, paying the women their monthly salary, etc.
RequirementsExperience traveling or studying in a developing country is a plus!
We look for motivated students with a track-record of taking leadership positions in student groups.
