DescriptionWho we are:
More Gardens! - Rooted in arts and education, we are artists, community people, community gardeners, and environmental and social justice activists. We promote the enhancement and preservation of community gardens as well as the cultivation of fallow land in New York City.
Our Project: More Gardens! presently working to find land for an "Sacred Art of Nature" - Rooted in wilderness, our diverse environmental and social justice community nurtures individual and collective arts, education, and advocacy for the wellness, protection, and celebration of people and our planet.
Create an inspirational business plan for an Intentional Community / Ecovillage planned in the Hudson Valley.
Collaborating in participatory planning with local and NYC members. The goals of the plan would be to interest additional investors.
Ecological Goals (includes agriculture and resource utilization)
Create a model of a resilient farming community.
Employ ecological principles in land use practices
Design and build perennial components in our food system.
Provide 50% of food onsite
Create and follow sustainable forest management plan
Create endangered plant sanctuary
Utilize on-site building materials for cob housing
Employ low carbon footprint technologies
Social Goals (community, education and spiritual)
Support ongoing grassroots eco-community building work for city dwellers working in community gardens to learn and grow together through workshops and time together spent learning eco-techniques together and bonding while immersed in nature.
Lead environmental educational workshops
Build communal commercial kitchen
Administer apprenticeship programs
Provide spiritually relevant learning opportunities
Location: We would like face to face collaboration in NYC or Hudson Valley and we are also open to working remotely.
When: Rolling basis. Start date Spring/Summer 2016
ResponsibilitiesParticipatory planning alongside community members
Working with members to plan overall business plan
Creating a final overall detailed business plan comprising sketches and drawings of overall ecovillage housing, community spaces, as well as growing areas, playgrounds
RequirementsGraduate level or Senior/Junior business major
Knowledge and experience in :
Inovative management and financial techniques integrating business and the environmental sciences
Integrating social, environmental and ethical issues into a business moodel
Clean & Renewable energy
Water management strategies
Business courses (such as financial management, accounting, marketing, microeconomics and communications).
Sustainability (such as natural and human communities, sustainable business, sustainable economics and management, building social capital and earth/art based ecology).
