Description

ProgressVA is a multi-issue progressive advocacy organization that combines cutting edge online organizing and communications with rapid and hard-hitting earned media strategies. Year round, ProgressVA works to engage citizens from across the Commonwealth around issues of immediate state or local concern.

Our mission is to provide a strong, credible voice in advancing progressive solutions to critical community problems. But we don't do that on our own---we work as a communications team for the entire progressive community.

We're a marketing department for progressive ideas---a campaign that never stops. We work year-round to challenge conservative propaganda in the media and make sure that progressive perspectives are heard.

Responsibilities

What we're offering: An opportunity to join our hard charging team. The enthusiastic activist chosen for this position will work directly with the Director of Digital Communications and be responsible for:

Social Media
Drafts and assists in updating social accounts.
Responds to post or comments to bring value to user’s interactions with Progress Virginia.
Performs research to find articles stories, resources or other content that is relevant to our partners and constituents and posts it to our Facebook page in a manner that invites conversation and interaction.
Assists in growing social networks and email lists by increasing fan base and interaction.
Complete other social media duties, as assigned.

Digital Media
Create graphic shareables for digital channels.
Organizes and archives images, videos, and press clips
Completes other digital media projects, as assigned.

Research
Regularly observes the online activity of model organizations researches and reports on social media best practices
Completes other research projects, as assigned.

Reporting and Analytics
Uses Google Analytics to assess trends and activity on Progress Virginia Website.
Uses Facebook Insights to assess trends and activity on Progress Virginia Facebook Page
Uses Twitter Analytics to assess trends and activity on the Progress Virginia Twitter Page.
Assists on other reporting projects, as needed.

We want you if you are:
Creative self-starter who is comfortable with both taking the initiative and working in collaboration.
Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity and facility with mainstream social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
A good understanding of design, layout, and color
Experience with Photoshop, InDesign, and creating graphics for social media
Fast worker who can accept design direction that may be different from your taste - getting it right and on time are essential
Interest in progressive politics and being part of the process
Knowledge of various typefaces helpful, but not required
Experience with HTML, SQL, etc. are helpful, but not required

Requirements

We want you if you are:

When/Where: Plan on 15-20 hours per week. We're looking for people who are smart and quick, but breaking events also generate work.
Internships run from June to August and a stipend is available.
This internship located in Virginia, but you will be working remotely as ProgressVA is a virtual office environment.
