ResponsibilitiesGeneral Statement of Responsibilities: Current students will preferably have at least sophomore standing. The individual must demonstrate the ability to undertake basic communications writing assignments, and posses an understanding of basic media relations skills, an ability to interact professionally with clients, and use good judgment. The communications intern will be mentored by the Communications director and Communications Technician. The Communications Technician will help the intern prioritize tasks and focus on multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Interns will work between 20-40 hours a week. Relevant experience is preferred.
-Drafts basic communications materials including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, weekly newsletters, flyers and other marketing materials as directed
-Coordinates special event planning activities
-Attends and participates in meetings and presentations
-Assists with the development and updating media lists and other administrative databases -Updates Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media networks for GRPS
-Also ensures completeness and accuracy of information and assists with the management of communications duties
-Assists with administrative duties including answering phones, arranging interviews, answering emails, mailings and other administrative functions as assigned.
-Assists with the management of newspaper and periodical inventories for easy access.
-Provides support for projects within the Communications department as needed
Qualifications: -Must be incoming sophomore (junior status preferred) -Strong written and oral communication skills -Creative and outgoing -Ability to work independently and as part of a team -Organization and time management skills -Comfortable working with and communicating with diverse groups of people -Proficient Computer use-Microsoft Office software i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher -Must have own transportation -Familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media networks
Requirements- Possess skills at initiating innovative ideas, unifying team members, and judging correctly what will appeal to target audiences.
- Prefer challenges that involve communication, are people-oriented, promote networking and socializing, and include roles that call for imagination.
