For over 25 years, Open Hand has empowered individuals throughout the Atlanta community to use nutrition to improve their quality of life. Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care™, which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life.

We are looking for an energetic, highly-motivated individual to fill our Development and Special Events Intern position. The intern will provide administrative and staff support while gaining a deeper knowledge of nonprofit fundraising, special events and operations. This is an unpaid, part-time position for registered college/university students.


• Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office, including word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (Raiser’s Edge experience a plus but not required)
• Able to multi-task and respond to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work minimum of 16 hours per week
• Self-starter who requires little supervision
• Excellent written verbal and communication skills
• Assist the Resource Development team in promoting Open Hand's mission
• Acquire good work habits
• Enhance multi-tasking skills
• Enhance communication skills
• Learn to use nonprofit software such as The Raiser’s Edge
• Better understanding of Atlanta nonprofit network


• Creating and editing documents such as annual fund appeals, monthly e-newsletter, emails, acknowledgement letters, and reports
• Utilizing social media strategy for fundraisers and special events; increasing social media presence
• Assisting in event planning and management for Signature Events (Party in the Kitchen, Dining Out for Life) and Major Donor Events (Epicurean Circle Parties) – duties include contacting vendors, working with committees, event set-up, and volunteer management
• Assisting in managing 3rd party fundraising events – creating and maintaining a relationship with 3rd party coordinator, event marketing to Open Hand donors and volunteers, attending the event
• Maintaining and updating the donor database as needed
• Providing general administrative support to the Open Hand Resource Development Department
• Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
