DescriptionThe Center for a New American Security (CNAS), a leading national security think tank, seeks an External Relations intern to support its communications outreach, marketing and event planning.
Joseph S. Nye, Jr. External Relations Interns work directly with the External Relations team on media relations and monitoring, social media outreach, website administration, database management, multimedia support, event planning and execution, writing marketing materials and press releases, copy editing and external relations writ large. Candidates with demonstrated interests in social media optimization, communications, journalism, photography, video editing, web and print design, public relations and most importantly the mission of CNAS are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will be highly motivated, technically savvy, detail oriented and have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
CNAS offers full-time and part-time External Relations internships. Interns are compensated with a monthly stipend of $400, which is intended to help cover the cost of transportation and other daily expenses incurred during the internship. The CNAS External Relations internship is very competitive. Interns work closely with CNAS staff and are given considerable responsibility. Participants are chosen based on merit in an open, competitive process. All qualified applicants are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

ResponsibilitiesDraft blog posts, media advisories, tweets, Facebook posts, and web content;
Update CNAS.org using our content management system;
Demonstrated interests in social media optimization, communications, journalism, photography, video editing, web and print design, public relations;
Editing and posting photos using Photoshop under the direction of the Creative Director.
RequirementsOpen to students and entry-level professionals who have studied communications, marketing, advertising, public relations or a related major;
Interest in defense and national security is highly encouraged, but not required;
Must be able to work 20-40 hours per week.
