About Wuqu' Kawoq | Maya Health Alliance:

Wuqu’ Kawoq | Maya Health Alliance is a non-governmental organization dedicated to strengthening health care for indigenous Maya communities in Guatemala. Our mission is premised on our belief that everyone–-no matter where they were born, what language they speak, or how much money they have–-should have the highest quality health care.

Our model consists of the delivery direct medical care services, the promotion of Mayan language and culture, research on issues relevant to indigenous health, and health advocacy. We carry out a total of approximately 20,000 patient visits per year in more than a dozen rural communities in Guatemala.

Over the course of our organization's history, we have had dozens of long-term students work with us in Guatemala, and our prior students generally have had excellent experiences from both a personal and professional perspective. Many students elect to remain involved with our organization after their time in Guatemala concludes.
