Description

The Valley Industry & Commerce Association (VICA) is recognized as the top business advocacy organization in the San Fernando Valley for its outreach to local, state and federal officials. VICA is a San Fernando Valley-based organization that represents a range of large and small companies in the greater San Fernando Valley area and advocates for a stronger business climate in the Valley, the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, the state of California and the United States.

We are currently offering an exciting position within our Communications Department. Individuals interested in pursuing a career in public affairs, government, business, communications and/or nonprofit management are encouraged to apply.

We're seeking an individual who's adept at posting, blogging, Tweeting, understands hashtags and capable of putting the latest marketing and social media tools to practice in the world of business advocacy.

The internship will include opportunities to gain experience in PR writing for various media outlets, as well as working on presenting materials to support our advocacy campaigns for our members in the Valley's business community.

This is a part-time, unpaid, on-site internship. VICA will work around your schedule, and with your college or university to explore opportunities for course credit; however, telecommuting or working from home is not available.

Responsibilities

Help with a range of daily needs at VICA’s Van Nuys office and off-site events, including, but not limited to:

- Assist with drafting language to support VICA's advocacy positions

- creating and executing multimedia projects to demonstrate advocacy positions

- updating/managing online resources, including the organization’s website

- writing, filming and editing projects that promote VICA's advocacy

- Participate in event coverage, assisting in media relations

- writing for media reports, advertising copy and press releases

Requirements

The ideal candidate is:

- pursuing an associate's, undergraduate or graduate degree in communications, public relations or related field.

- capable of writing, editing and posting to the Web in AP Style;

- familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

- familiar with InDesign, Premiere, Final Cut or similar photo/video editing software;

- and an excellent communicator. Research and writing is required.

There will also be opportunities to attend special programs featuring top policymakers (including free food!), meet business leaders from across the region, learn about public policy issues and harness advocacy skills from some of the area’s leading public policy experts and insiders.
