DescriptionHeading Home is a New Mexico non-profit that seeks to make experiences of homelessness rare, short-lived and non-recurring. Since 2011, Heading Home has helped transition more than 2,000 individuals and their family members into housing. Heading Home runs several programs and initiatives that end homelessness for hundreds of people by using a housing-first approach. Heading Home programs include: Albuquerque Heading Home, Vets Heading Home, Keeping Families Together and The Albuquerque Opportunity Center (which hosts a men's emergency shelter, 24/7 respite and Veterans Transitional Housing). Through the implementation of these programs, millions of dollars are saved in community resources. A study of the Albuquerque Heading Home initiative concluded that it is 30% cheaper to house someone experiencing homelessness, than it is to leave them on the street.
The Communications Department is responsible for sharing the stories, outcomes, successes and mission of Heading Home with donors, volunteers, the community, clients, as well the Heading Home social media audience. The Communications Intern will report to the Communications Director and be responsible for helping to implement communication plans, activities and events.
