DescriptionOpen Hand Atlanta is located in the Midtown neighborhood of Atlanta and has been preparing and delivering healthy meals to residents in need for over 25 years. The organization has grown from a grass roots endeavor serving about a dozen people to an operation that produces 4,000 meals/day and provides nutrition education services in addition to meals to clients in 18 Georgia counties.
Open Hand has an ongoing need for timely and effective communication with our clients, donors, foundations, community partners, employees and many others to promote our mission, obtain new accounts and grow our revenue streams. The Communications Specialist Intern will play a key role in crafting internal and external letters, articles, advertising, promotional pieces, social media, presentations and any other communication necessary for the effective running of the organization.
ResponsibilitiesApplicant will be report directly to the Executive Director of Open Hand and will be assisting multiple management-level employees of Open Hand in the day-to-day creation of all forms of communication. Additional tasks may be required of applicant to assist in the planning and execution of special events, meetings and presentations.
RequirementsApplicants for the internship must have completed a minimum of six semesters and at least 30% of courses required for acquisition of the intended degree. Applicant must also have expert proficiency in the use of the following computer programs: Word and Power Point and moderate proficiency in the use of Excel. Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English language is required. A broad knowledge of and experience in engaging on social media (Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, etc.) is also required.
Submission of sample work created in the above mentioned computer programs as well as examples of written materials will be necessary for consideration of applicant for the internship.
Applicant must have own transportation and be available to report to work Monday – Friday for a minimum of 6 hours each day.
