DescriptionThe American Library Association (ALA) is the oldest and largest library association in the world. Founded in 1876, our mission is to share our vision of the importance of libraries, literacy and free access to information. ALA offers professional services and publications to members and nonmembers, including online news stories from American Libraries and analysis of crucial issues from our Washington Office. Our main office is located in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast, right off of Michigan Ave, with satellite offices in Washington, DC, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) is one of 11 divisions and is located in our Chicago office.
ResponsibilitiesIntern will coordinate Dollar General Literacy grant related projects, including marketing mini grant opportunities to members, collecting grant applications, liaising with member committees who will vet the applications, fielding grant related queries from members, and notifying grant applicants as to the status of their application. Disseminate marketing messages and materials including fliers, press releases, social media messages and web page content.
RequirementsExcellent writing skills, project management skills, very good interpersonal and time management skills, strong work ethic, proficiency with MS Office, familiarity with social media.
Major/area of study: Communications, Marketing/Public Relations, English/writing.
Approximately 15 hrs. per week – exact hours and days are flexible.
