DescriptionOutside the Lens is seeking volunteer classroom assistants to help facilitate our weekly "Cameras in the Classroom" photography and digital media education programs. Classroom Assistants will be placed in a regular, recurring OTL class (one or more sessions per week, for a minimum of 10 weeks, at a K-12 school in San Diego) based on interest and availability.
Responsibilities-Work closely with the on-site OTL Media Educator to assist in implementing lesson plans and curriculum for Outside the Lens programs.
-Work with students individually and in groups to facilitate the achievement of student learning objectives and the successful completion of photography and digital media projects.
-Help manage classrooms of 15 - 35 students in grades 3 - 12
-Operate and maintain camera equipment and classroom space
-Ensure that all policies and procedures are met at the respective site
-Assist with the creation of student portfolios
-Assist with coordination of culminating student exhibition at program site: selecting images to display, preparing exhibition displays, and staffing exhibition event
Requirements-Experience working with youth (preferred, not required)
-Experience with photography and/or filmmaking
-Familiarity with Mac computers/software
-Familiarity with DSLR cameras
-Strong communication skills
-Dependable, adaptable, flexible, and punctual
-Strong interpersonal skills
-Patience and professionalism
-Interest in media literacy education
-Interest in personal development
