Description

The Valley Industry & Commerce Association (VICA) is recognized as the top business advocacy organization in the San Fernando Valley for its outreach to local, state and federal officials. VICA is a San Fernando Valley-based organization that represents a range of large and small companies in the greater San Fernando Valley area and advocates for a stronger business climate in the Valley, the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, the state of California and the United States.

We are currently offering an exciting, new opportunity to learn about the history of the Valley’s business community and work to preserve historical information on how the San Fernando Valley took its shape. A significant force in the civic and business development of the region, VICA, which was founded in 1949, played a role in the development of the freeways, water systems and formation of the Valley. We’re looking for an individual who can help us preserve and chronicle VICA’s role.

The internship would also create an opportunity for the intern to have their name published as a credit to the project when it’s completed.

This is a part-time, unpaid, on-site internship. VICA will work around your schedule, and with your college or university to explore opportunities for course credit; however, telecommuting or working from home is not available.

For more information about exactly what our organization does, visit www.vica.com.

Responsibilities

The internship involves working on a book-form compendium of VICA’s history and impact in the San Fernando Valley. The project entails digging through the archives that VICA has donated to CSUN, a nearby university, as well as any available material that can be gleaned from other VICA resources, such as member interviews, Internet and any and all other forms of research.

The final goal of the internship is a published book that will be compiled and printed over the course of the next couple of years. The individual would take on at least one of seven 10-year spans in the last 70 years and, using the archives VICA has in our office and at California State University, Northridge, work with the Communications Manager to develop a plan to organize and present the material in a history book.

If you enjoy writing, history, working with the business community and the chance to create and preserve historical archives, this is the perfect internship for you.
