DescriptionAt Describeit, we are all about explaining the complex world to every day consumers. Everyone should be able to understand what they’re buying without the complex jargon.
Describeit is a SaaS startup with a small business contracting platform used by landscapers, lawn maintenance crews, and general contractors around the country. We help enable these businesses to build beautiful proposals quickly and easily for consumers to understand and purchase.
We’re searching for an ambitious UX/UI Design intern who will be assisting our Product Development effort with research on the latest responsive design paradigms, creation of responsive stylesheets for tablet and phone devices, and internationalization of our application. You will be working directly with the lead developers who built the app from the ground up and will gain incredible insight into what it takes to build a viable, useful product from scratch.
You should be:
Creative Thinker: We’re looking for new ways to engage and enable our customers across all of their devices. You know how to throw away the mold and find new ways to accomplish the task.
Outstanding Coder: You know the value of a great CSS class and can appreciate a clean responsive template.
Self Starter: We’re looking for someone who, with the right initial training, can take a project and run with it. No hand-holding required.
The position will require 3-4 days a week in our offices in Virginia. Our office is located directly next to the Courthouse Metro in Arlington, VA. The workload is estimated to be around 24-32 hours per week, but may vary.
Identify new and creative design paradigms that can be incorporate into our application
Discover new plugins and software frameworks that can improve our efficiency or application stability
Get hands on with our existing CSS classes and front end views to be awesome on tablets and phones
Have your own code be integrated in a production application and guide it through the design phase, development, and finally the QA stage
Participate in weekly development meetings and bug fix sessions
Explore all of the front-end views and templates for our application while extracting all static text
Work with our development team to create a framework you design for capturing all static text
Oversee the outsourcing of the text for translation and assist in testing the finished product for accuracy
You may be pulled on to other projects or tasks as they come up during your time here
0-2 years experience in ui/ux design and/or computer science. Ideal for a college student or recent grad looking to gain hands-on experience

Responsibilities- You will be working directly with our engineering team to update our existing CSS and application views to be fully responsive and functional on mobile devices including phones and tablets
- You will be responsible for putting together design mock ups and updated code to be presented for review by our engineering team
- You will be responsible for ensuring quality and testing your end product to ensure compatibility with standard devices
Requirements- You should have experience with UX and UI development and tools such as CSS3, Bootstrap, and Responsive Design
- You should have a familiarity with backend development languages such as Ruby on Rails, Python, or PHP
- You should have a familiarity with design tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator
