Lisa M. Dietlin and Associates, Inc. (LMDA) assists individuals and nonprofit organizations in developing transformational philanthropic strategies. We believe that all philanthropic endeavors should be based on a strategy that is purposeful and engaging to both the nonprofit organization and the donor.

Put simply…we help find and focus major acts of philanthropy.

Founded in 2000, Lisa M. Dietlin and Associates, Inc. (LMDA) provides strategic advice and counsel to nonprofit organizations as well as individuals, particularly entrepreneurs, regarding philanthropic strategies. As an intern, you will help with the day to day tasks key within this (and any) organization.


The responsibilities of a Junior Associate Intern can include the following however, please note that LMDA works to tailor internships to each individual and their specific goals:

• Client Work
o Research client and philanthropic issues
o Other client work and projects as assigned
o Assist with phone calls to schedule meetings with prospective major gift donors
o Assist with prospect research for clients
o Assist with managing databases and excel spreadsheets for clients
o Schedule meetings with clients
o Assist with client requests
o Prepare and send packages/information to clients and potential clients
o Willingness to attend client meeting(s) and/or business development meeting(s)
o Other work as assigned

• Operations and Administrative Work
o Draft follow-up correspondence
o Prepare materials for meetings
o Data entry
o Assist in maintaining internal spreadsheets
o Assist in editing, copying, and delivery of documents
o Communicate messages among staff
o File client and administrative documents
o Answer phones
o Assist with collating and binding of proposals, presentation packets, and final reports
o Assist in maintaining internal spreadsheets
o Prepare mailings, mail merges, and email blasts
o Assist with internal and external correspondence
o Assist in updating and maintaining the LMDA database Participation in weekly staff meetings and retreats
o Other work as assigned

• Marketing Work
o Work to expand social media reach (i.e., Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
o Assist with speaking engagements (i.e., logistics, scheduling, etc.)
o Assist with blog
o Assist with book signings (i.e., securing them, logistics, etc.)
o Assist with electronic media (i.e., television appearances, radio, online videos, etc.)
o Assist with YouTube channel (i.e., upload videos, digitize videos, etc.)
o Search for appearances of LMDA and/or LMD in publications
o Send information requested by groups seeking a speaker
o Seek out speaking engagement opportunities
o Respond to RFPs for speaking engagements
o Other work as assigned


The successful candidate will need to have computer knowledge and proficiency especially in the areas of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and other programs.

Ideally, s/he should demonstrate an interest in philanthropy and development work and adhere to the strictest of confidentiality and ethical behavior.

The positions are unpaid internships. Class credit will be given where appropriate. The successful candidate will be active in their position’s growth as to obtain the richest experience from the internship. LMDA requires 20-30 hours per week (during normal business hours) as a Junior Associate Intern. LMDA is flexible in terms of scheduling; however, weekly consistency is preferred. This internship is open ended for growth based on abilities.
