DescriptionThe Crime Stoppers GreaterAtlanta internship program is designed to educate and involve students and recent graduates in crime prevention and interest them in public safety careers. While gaining knowledge about crime prevention, you will also learn about the non-profit sector importance of fundraising. Upon completion, participants will walk away with a diverse and unique experience that they can take with them into many criminal justice careers. The Internship is also intended to expose individuals to a hands-on learning experience that provides students with an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge, gain approved and supervised experience in business, agency, and other work environments relative to their major.
Interns are expected to work between 10 and 20 hours a week during an 8-to-10 week internship period. Internships are offered during the Summer, Fall, and Winter/Spring semesters. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta and the intern’s home institution. All interns are subject to the applicable rules laid out in the Atlanta Police Foundation’s Personnel Manual. This is a non-paid internship.
ResponsibilitiesThe intern, while working on operational, administrative, and support functions, will be provided an atmosphere of learning. Interns assist with promoting the Crime Stoppers program and connecting with the community. Some duties include assisting at the Atlanta Police Foundation's community events, launching and monitoring social media campaigns, writing creative and engaging blog posts on current issues in metro-Atlanta and the U.S. etc. Various tasks will be assigned depending on events and projects.
RequirementsA candidate must be a graduate student; a junior or senior undergraduate student; or have graduated from college within twelve months of beginning the internship. Students applying for this internship must have a 3.0 GPA (Grade Point Average). Internship applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Students should preferably demonstrate an interest in criminal justice, nonprofit development, public administration, social work or other related fields. Students should possess some creative writing and communication skills. Some graphic design and photo editing skills preferred, but not required.
