DescriptionThank you for your interest in an educational internship position at the District 14 Medical Examiner’s Office. Our office has statutory jurisdiction for the investigation of all deaths that fall under Florida Statute 406. District 14 includes Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson and Washington counties and our office is located on Frankford Avenue in Panama City.
A significant amount of our work includes the autopsy of individuals to determine a cause and manner of death. These autopsies include children and decomposed, insect infested bodies. All intern applicants must possess the ability to work in this type of environment. Applicants may be asked to attend an autopsy to gauge how comfortable they are in these work environments. Our work also includes the occasional scene response to homes, properties and waterways where a death has occurred.
The staff at our office has education, training, and past job experience in several different fields that are beneficial to the positions we now hold here at the Medical Examiner’s Office. This internship will be as hands on as the intern would like, and our staff is more than willing to share our knowledge and experience in hopes the intern will apply it to their future career goals.
The busiest day in the office is usually Monday and the ideal applicant would be available that day. We can work around other schedules for the remaining days.
ResponsibilitiesAdministrative duties include:
Scanning documents or files
Interacting with visitors to the office
Morgue responsibilities include:
Attend/participate in forensic autopsies
Receipt/Release of bodies (with assistance)
Forensic responsibilities include:
Attend death scenes with on-call investigator(24/7)
Digital photography at scenes
Lift/maneuver body for investigation and transportation
RequirementsMust be 18 years of age or older.
Must have current resume attached to application.
The position introduces the intern to protected information. If selected, completion of criminal history check with satisfactory results will be required.
