DescriptionMinds Incorporated is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching students, educators, and parents simple, daily mindfulness practices that build awareness and concentration, social emotional learning, compassion, and creativity.
We work closely with school leaders and their communities to customize our programming to their needs, build their local capacity, and embed knowledge of mind-body practices in their community for the long term. Ultimately, we aim to transform the culture of our client schools, making them safe, inclusive, and compassionate places to learn.
Since it was founded in 2013, Minds has served over 5,000 students, 1,000 educators and 1,000 parents at 35 different public, public charter and private schools in the DC metro area—and its reach continues to grow.
Minds is seeking a self-motivated and organized individual to serve as a Development Intern this fall. The Development Intern will work closely with Minds' Director of Development to help raise money for the organization to expand mindfulness programs in DC schools. Minds is a young and dynamic organization at the forefront of a national movement to bring more mind-body practices into public schools to foster improved mental and physical health for youth and adults. The Development Intern will be a key player in the organization, taking part in the following activities:
1) Conduct prospect research on potential individual and foundation donors
2) Prepare and submit letters of inquiry and proposals to foundations
3) Contribute to the set up and implementation of new constituent management system
4) Assist with the preparation and implementation of events
5) Help write stories, produce short videos and generate other creative materials as applicable
6) Other duties as assigned
The time commitment would be 5-10 hours a week, particularly in the fall, which will be a busier time. Additionally, the intern would work virtually, with 10-20% time in-person meetings in metro-accessible locations.
