DescriptionAssist Development Coordinator/Executive Director with event planning, fundraising and public relations activities in a unique, fast-paced environment. Duties will include clerical and administrative tasks as needed. The WAVE Foundation Development Intern is a volunteer position with the WAVE Foundation. There is no monetary compensation for this position.

ResponsibilitiesSupport “Friend Raising” initiatives.
Assist with event planning, fundraising, and event execution (includes attending events and meetings as needed).
Communicate effectively with the public about WAVE Foundation events- Social media, press releases and print literature.
Maintain a professional manner while networking and building relationships with organizations and other professional entities.
Assist and take direction from the WAVE Foundation Executive Director on initiatives and projects as needed.
Assist WAVE Foundation Executive Director with general clerical support including copies, mailings, and answering phones/making calls.
Process merchandise orders and fulfillment (pull order items, prepare for shipment, mailings, etc.)
Communicate and maintain working relationships with educators, students, guests, staff, supervisors, volunteers, other departments, and colleagues in related industries.
Communicate well in an environment which may include loud noises, large crowds and varying settings.
Provide excellent and accurate customer service for WAVE Foundation and the Aquarium’s missions.
Direct questions, suggestions or grievances through appropriate procedures and channels.
Notify the appropriate person if unable to volunteer, either due to illness, vacation, resignation or leave of absence.
Represent WAVE Foundation and the Newport Aquarium in a professional manner, including dress code, behavior and timeliness.
Perform in accordance with all protocols, policies and operating procedures of the WAVE Foundation and the Newport Aquarium.
Other duties as assigned.
RequirementsMust be 18 years or older.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Data Entry experience preferred.
Knowledge of fundraising techniques including special events, donor cultivation and acknowledgment.
Possess a high-level of autonomy and responsibility (self-starter, entrepreneurial attitude).
Highly organized and the ability to multi-task. Strong oral and written communication skills.
Passionate about animals, conservation, community and education.
Willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Be engaging, friendly, courteous, enthusiastic and sincere.
