DescriptionThe Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) was founded in 2000 with one clear objective: accelerating meaningful therapeutic advances and, ultimately, a cure for Parkinson's disease. Our aggressively funded research agenda is a core part of our strategy towards achieving this mission, and the development of this agenda and management of our research portfolio is driven by a team and advisors with both scientific and business expertise. The Michael J. Fox Foundation, the largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's Research, pursues its goals through an aggressively funded, highly targeted research program, and has invested more than $525 million in research to date.
Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising program at The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Each year more than 1,800 Team Fox members worldwide turn their passions and interests into unique fundraising events and athletic feats. Team Fox members all over the world receive resources and tools to help turn marathons, golf tournaments, auctions, cocktail parties, lemonade stands and other events into an opportunity to raise much needed funds for Parkinson's research. Some Team Fox fundraisers honor a loved one, some celebrate an occasion and many just want to make a difference in our goal to eradicate Parkinson's disease. Team Fox members are leading the charge in the search for a cure. Every day, they demonstrate the difference one community can have by working together to create a world free of Parkinson's. To date, our members have raised more than $35 million toward accelerating a cure for Parkinson's disease and improved therapies for those living with the condition today.
One of the Team Fox signature events this year will be Tour de Fox. This event will feature our seasoned endurance athlete and MJFF staff member, Sam Fox (no relation to Michael). Sam will test his physical limits by biking more than 5,000 miles and climbing the highest peak in each of the 48 contiguous states, including additional events in Vancouver, BC. His 14,000 mile, cross-country journey, will unite the Parkinson's community while raising $1 million towards critical research. He is inviting hundreds of people across the country to join him along the way.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research has an exciting learning opportunity available as a Team Fox Intern. The Team Fox Intern will have a unique opportunity to work within a highly regarded non-profit organization and gain firsthand knowledge of the operations and management of a quickly growing grassroots community fundraising program.
