Hands Across the World is a non-profit local organization here in St. Cloud, MN which works with new immigrants and refugees. We help adults and families adjust to American life and integrate them into the St. Cloud community. We teach English, basic math, sewing, job skills, and much more, as well as providing them with resources to succeed.
Volunteers to tutor immigrant and refugee students (children) in our non-profit tutoring program:
Who: For students of all grades, however the program specifically targets K-3rd graders.
What: Individual and group tutoring in English skills, math & science. Curriculum and basic training are provided. No experience necessary!
Where: Bel Clair Acres Trailer Park (Waite Park, Minnesota)
When: Program is on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm.
Why: Our mission at HAW is "To provide a first learning experience to newly arrived immigrants and refugees who do not have the language or living skills to thrive in our community. In a classroom environment, we help both children and parents acquire the tools needed to become integrated citizens of Central Minnesota."
This tutoring program is aimed at helping the children of our adult students in developing character, social skills, and academic success.

ResponsibilitiesCommit to working atleast one day a week with the program.
Find transportation to and from the program site.
RequirementsMust have previous experience with children.
Must pass background check.
Must have the desire to work with children of multiple cultures, nationalities, and ethnicities.
Many of the children attending will speak English and Spanish, so any skills in Spanish or knowledge about Latino/Hispanic/Chicano community will give you an advantage.
