DescriptionTavaana: E-Learning Institute for Iranian Civil Society is accepting intern applications for summer 2013
Tavaana E-Learning Institute for Iranian Civil Society seeks college seniors and graduate students of the highest caliber with interest in the fields of digital media, human rights, and liberation technology. Tavaana interns are given substantial work in digital media production, website management, and social media. Digital media interns interact closely with Tavaana's staff and in-house experts. Though the Tavaana internship program is unpaid, participants gain marketable skills and networking opportunities. Tavaana internships are an exciting opportunity to work at the nexus of technology, education and democratic change. Interns are often promoted to full-time employment positions with benefits. In-office and virtual internship opportunities are available.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Internships last approximately 4 months and can be extended depending on interns' availability. Applications from individuals outside the Washington, DC area are welcome for virtual internships.
About the Tavaana E-Learning Institute for Iranian Civil Society
Tavaana – meaning 'empowered' and 'capable' in Persian – is an e-learning space for Iranian civil society. Through partnerships with international universities and civic training organizations, and in collaboration with leading Iranian scholars and civic leaders, Tavaana empowers Iranian civil society. Tavaana offers live-instruction e-courses and manuals, as well as case studies of global civic struggles, video interviews with civic leaders, translation of key resources, a democracy and human rights resource library and Internet freedom and digital safety resources. ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities depend on intern capabilities and background: edit videos and podcasts, design graphics for use on website and social media, edit website content, assist with social media and research/writing case studies
College senior or graduate student
Interest in supporting Tavaana's mission
Excellent academic background
Proven work ethic and willingness to take initiative
Reliability, ability to take instructions and work with minimal supervision
Ability to commit to 20-40 hours per week
Desired skills (not required):
Fluency in Persian, including reading/writing skills
Proficiency in Adobe Suite, Final Cut Pro, HTML/CSS
Proficiency in Drupal
Strong design skills
