DescriptionAre you a creative, driven, passionate about the arts, and looking for a bridge between university and the world of professional theatre? Seattle Repertory Theatre is seeking interns for their 2014-2015 season.!
Seattle Rep's renowned Professional Arts Training Program has been preparing theatre artists and administrators for 20 years. Our interns are bright, self-motivated individuals with basic training and experience in theatre who are committed to strengthening their skills and talents. They are effective communicators with an enthusiasm for community building and self-discovery. And they go on to work at the country's top organizations (including right here at the Rep).
The Education Intern is directly involved in a variety of middle and high school residencies, and also leads student matinees at the Rep. This intern will serve as director on a variety of residencies, in which high school students create and produce original performance pieces. Other experiences include community advocacy, working with teachers to connect programs to academic standards, and coordinating more than 70 residencies and 30 teaching artists. School Programs Manager Scott Koh is the direct supervisor for this internship position, but the Education Intern will work closely with all members of the education staff. Advice from the Director of Education: "You've got to really like being around teenagers, mainly high school and middle school students. Young people can tell if you want to be in the classroom or not, and it makes a real difference in how they respond to and learn from you. We're looking for a good sense of humor coupled with intelligence and a sincere desire to make a difference — in your own life as well as the lives of students."

ResponsibilitiesInterns undertake responsibilities as members of the staff, contribute ideas, participate in department and staff meetings, and complete projects under the guidance of their supervisors. Interns also participate in professional workshops and seminars, which provide contact with theatre staff, guest artists, and members of the Seattle arts community. Staff members guide the work of each intern to help prepare them for a career in professional theatre.
RequirementsApplicants should regard the Professional Arts Training Program as a full-time commitment of at least 32 hours per week throughout our full season (September through May). Interns will receive a weekly stipend of $200. We require a resume, two (2) letters of recommendation and a letter of intent. Please send these materials to email@example.com to complete your application.
