Seeking an intern for Real Kids Real Food,(RKRF), a healthy living, inner-city after-school program, manifesting the mission of Optimum Health Solution (OHS), a non-profit 501c3 based out of Waltham. OHS’s mission is to eliminate obesity, chronic disease and malnutrition, especially in children through education and advocacy of healthy living. The RKRF program is based out of the Mystic Learning Center in Somerville, MA and focuses on educating children ages 5 to 12 on nutrition, gardening, and physical activity through a hands-on approach. The after-school program takes place at on Tuesday afternoons 3:15 - 5:15pm in Somerville, and preparation beforehand will be at the office in Waltham. This internship requires a 10 hour a week commitment with compensation of $90 a week. College credit can be arranged.

This dynamic internship is an excellent opportunity for students from the Public Health, Elementary Education and Social Work fields to learn more about nonprofits and health education among at-risk populations, and work directly with children. Additional highly recommended opportunity: Full tuition scholarship, "Eat to Thrive: 10 weeks to Life Long Healthy Habits and Healthy Living on Wednesdays from 6 to 10 PM, valued at $535. Responsibilities

Qualifications:
Passionate about our mission.
Excellent writing skills and ability to conduct basic research.
Ability and experience leading and educating groups of kids.
Works well as a team member.
Background in gardening, nutrition and health education, environmental knowledge, and physical education a plus.
Loves working with kids.
Experience with Mac, iphoto, Keynote, Wordpress, eBook development and photography a plus.
Creative, flexible, and punctual

Requirements

Must be available on Tuesdays from 3:15 to 5:15 pm in Somerville.
Preferably available to prepare and transport classroom materials from Waltham to Somerville from 1:15 - 3:15 pm, remaining hours are flexible for scheduling.
Research health related topics.
Compose lesson plans and develop class-related materials, including games and projects.
Implement lesson plans and learning goals in classroom setting.
Grocery shopping and food preparation prior to each class.
Administer assessment tools for beginning and end of 10-week session.
Complete administrative tasks with supervisor including attendance, finances, Wordpress website updates, fundraising campaigns and emailing.
Must have own transportation and ability to help with transportation of class materials to and from main office in Waltham to class in Somerville.
