DescriptionAre you ready to make an impact on the future of young girls in science, technology, engineering and math? As a Project Scientist Coaching Fellow, you will help shape the minds and the paths of our talented and enthusiastic students who will one day solve our world’s greatest issues.
Project Scientist is a nonprofit organization devoted to encouraging and empowering girls with a passion, talent and aptitude for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Through hands on exploration, education and career counseling, mentoring and internships, our girls discover the endless opportunities available to them in nontraditional academic fields and careers.
The only focused effort of its kind Project Scientist has established a robust and focused STEM pipeline to advance girls and women, of all ages, in their STEM interests and passions. Project Scientist Academy, a key component of the Project Scientist pipeline project, focuses on identifying and engaging girls with an aptitude for STEM subjects at a young age. Through a captivating learning environment Project Scientist Academy engages girls, ages 4-12, in an innovative STEM experience. ResponsibilitiesProject Scientist seeks to provide, not only, students with the best possible environment and resources for innovative STEM learning, but also teachers and fellows! Our program aims to advance fellows’ passion for raising up the next generation of leaders providing our coaches the rare opportunity to receive the latest and most innovative teacher development training in gender-equitable STEM education and inquiry based learning techniques. It is our goal to inspire not only our students, but also our teachers, to take an innovative and exciting approach to education, both inside and outside of the classroom!
Coaching Fellows will work in the classroom alongside credentialed teachers and campers (girls ages 4-12) to facilitate hands-on STEM education, daily experiments, field trips, PE activities, art exploration, games and more.
Project Scientist is looking for each Coach to work one shift each day, Monday - Friday, during the five-week Academy camp. Camp is from July 7 – August 8 at Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC.
Shift 1: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
Shift 2: 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm
RequirementsProject Scientist is looking for 10-15 high-energy and committed college or post-graduate students to join our summer STEM academy team. The ideal candidate will have an interest and academic background in early education with a passion for science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). This unpaid Coaching Fellow will work alongside Project Scientist’s credentialed teachers, instructors, educational programmers, and STEM Superstars to facilitate student self-discovery and exploration. Not a STEM wiz yet? Not a problem! At Project Scientist we highly encourage teachers to immerse themselves in STEM discovery along with our students, allowing our future scientists to become the experts and take the lead!
• Academic background in early education
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to be proactive
• The ability to multitask, work independently and with a team
• Strong writing/editing skills and grammatical knowledge
• Advanced level of Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
• Passion for girls in STEM!
