Description

GEARS, Inc. seeks a highly motivated intern interested in education in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and/or math (STEM). The proposed internship includes activities that such as:

Responsibilities

• Conducting research on current STEM programs
• Organizing and conducting surveys and/or studies
• Reviewing data, records, and files for detail and accuracy
• Developing communications materials
• Data collection and management
• Research and analysis of information such as current STEM activities in the field
• Utilizing computer software to obtain and manipulate information. Specific knowledge of office software (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required; knowledge of SPSS is helpful

Requirements

Intern should major in studies primarily focused on STEM education. A current graduate student with previous research experience is preferred; however, a highly motivated undergraduate will be considered.

• Find, gather and collect information or data
• Monitor or track information or data
• Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, verify, and/or process information or data
• Understand current STEM education research
• Organize information in an accurate, clear, and concise manner
• Evaluate information against a set of standards
• Read and interpret statistical results from general journal articles
• Interview subject matter experts and project leaders to glean information
• Summarize journal articles
• Write a concise and well formulated review of literature or other resource annotation

• Interact effectively with clients in answering questions and providing information
• Follow written and/or oral instructions
• Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing; read and understand information presented in writing
• Report on the status of research activities to supervisor(s)
• Demonstrate initiative and a strong work ethic
