Harlem RBI, an award winning youth development program, is seeking an Academic and Youth Support Intern to provide twice-weekly academic and life skills support to our middle school students in East Harlem and the South Bronx. Our Academic and Youth Support intern is an integral part of our program team and works with youth individually and in small groups to help improve student success in class, increase subject-specific retention, and contribute to overall academic development.


Provide intensive academic support in tutoring sessions supported by staff and volunteers;
Support participants with homework completion in middle school subjects of your choice, including: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies;
Providing mentoring and life skills coaching to youth, in collaboration with program staff;
Assist students with development of critical thinking and problem solving skills;
Work with a diverse array of students and multiple learning styles on both long-term and short-term projects;
Serve as a role model and build positive relationships with youth;


Strong interest in youth development and/or previous experience working with youth;
Possess creativity, enthusiasm and patience;
Solid oral communication skills;
Ability to make a consistent, twice-weekly commitment;
Currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year undergraduate or graduate program.

Hours: The Academic and Youth Support Intern is asked to make a twice-weekly two hour commitment between the hours of 4-6:00pm in either East Harlem or the South Bronx.

Commitment: At least 3 months.
