REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator or Childcare Director
AGE REQUIREMENTS: Must be 18 years or older
TIME COMMITMENT: 8 – 12 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months (must be available mornings and afternoons)

POSITION SUMMARY: Join our staff at Home Away From Home Montessori School. Gain valuable experience in early childhood development while working with the preschool director to create and lead fun, age appropriate, education activities. This position will assist with leading activities, preparing materials, and supervising children ages 2 – 5 years old in the preschool program, 3 – 11 years old in the Montessori school, and 3 – 11 years old in the summer camp in all program activities to provide a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience. Programs run August – July.

Interns will benefit from the program in the following ways:
-Experience with early childhood behavior, development and management,
-Experience reaching and developing environmental education activities that will enhance the volunteer’s resume,
-Receive support from staff and take the lead on existing projects.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF DUTIES (to include but not limited to):
• Have knowledge of and abide by center policies and procedures
• Work under direct supervision of the classroom teacher(s)
• Follows and enforces child safety and security policies
• Function as a team member and maintain open communication with head teacher and parents
• Attend all staff meetings, parent conferences, in-service trainings, etc. as deemed necessary by head teacher or Program Director
• Assists in room set-up and supervision of student check-in/out procedure
• Perform personal care for children as need; e.g. diaper changes/toileting, dressing, skin care
• Assists in preparing educational materials
• Assist with food and snack preparation and daily clean-up
• Records hours in the ‘Volunteer Hourly Log Book’
• Performs other duties as requested

Requirements

Qualifications:
• Current First Aid and CPR recommended
• Interest and/or experience with children
• Ability to work comfortably, tactfully, courteously, and effectively with children, staff, parents and other volunteers
• Must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center’s philosophy
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. without restriction
• Must have patience, creativity, and ability to nurture children
