Description

Students who take an internship with MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids) in the program department will receive the necessary skills to effectively communicate and present to students around the valley. These skills include engaging audiences, excellent public speaking and memorizing of presentations as well as having input in writing and improving presentations to effectively present programs throughout the valley.

MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids), a nonprofit organization based in Scottsdale, Arizona is seeking several volunteer Program Mentor to join our team immediately. This is a non-paid position,

MASK's E3 (Engage, Educate and Empower) Youth Programs aim to engage, educate and empower families with the knowledge, resources and tools to make safe, healthy choices by bringing the latest research-backed information for age-appropriate level. Through MASK's E3 programming, families and students will be "in the know" on the latest issues and trends and, most importantly, students will learn tactics and strategies to deal with social challenges. The programs provide empowerment and support to nurture overall health.

MASK works with K-12 school districts and community partners to build healthy, independent K-12 students, recognizing that a strong foundation is needed for elementary, middle, and high school success; and college preparation. MASK continues to deepen and widen resources by leveraging preventative practices for school districts throughout Arizona.

Responsibilities

Engaging in training and conducting presentations in schools.
Serving as a liaison between MASK, MASK partnered schools, and Arizona State University staff to ensure program needs and goals are being met.
Training Hours: Training is 16 hours
Volunteer Hours: Responsibilities include 10-20 hours per week. Availability is flexible within the time frame 8:00 am-3:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Travel may be required due to events.
Successfully complete the Volunteer Presenter training course, as well as individual preparation for each presentation.
Make themselves available to provide 1 or 2 complete program(s) per year.
Arrive on time and present all programs for which they volunteer.
This position may be considered safety/security sensitive and may include a fingerprint check.

Requirements

Able to inspire school-aged kids through high energy and creative engaging presentations.
Preferred previous knowledge or skill and/or equivalent experience or training.
Passion for Health & Wellness, and Education.
Candidate should have prior experience working with school-aged kids.
Candidate should demonstrate resourcefulness and good problem-solving abilities, professionalism, leadership, effective interpersonal skills, effective verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Applicant should enjoy working with school-age kids.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are a plus, but not required.

In addition to being a nonprofit organization, MASK produces a quarterly publication, MASK The Magazine that reinforces our mission and education within schools.
