DescriptionBecome a Maker Fellow
MakerState is currently accepting Maker Fellow instructor and assistant instructor applications for our 2015 makerspace for kids program. We are looking for STEAM enthusiasts and educators who want to share their passion and skills to empower budding engineers (STEAM: science, technology, engineering, arts, math).
MakerState empowers kids ages 5-18 with science, technology, engineering, arts, and math passion and skills through makerspace workshops in robot engineering, fashion/wearable electronics, eco-engineering, video game design, paper circuits, 3D prototyping and printing, comic book creation, moviemaking, and more. The program emphasises the Engineering Design Process and 21st Century Skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. MakerState hosts its makerspaces in after-school programs, community workshops, pop-up makerspaces, summer camps, and birthday celebrations.
Our Maker Fellows are part-time instructors and curriculum writers in our partner schools and community centers. Our Fellows teach 2-20 hours or more per week, generally in the after school hours between 2:30pm-5:30pm, and/or Saturdays. The Maker Fellow is the primary instructor for young makers in our after-school and community programs. Fellows have three primary responsibilities:
guiding kids through MakerState’s award-winning “Challenge” curriculum and independently managing makerspaces in their assigned school and/or community space(s)
create new Challenge projects (usually 10-15 per semester) in a tech-arts field they are passionate/skilled in
act as ambassadors in their community, representing Maker Fellowship and helping to find new Fellows
The Fellowship commitment is usually for one semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer) but Fellows are encouraged to serve longer terms if they wish.
