Orton Gillingham Reading Specialists - Office Intern We are a team of expert Orton Gillingham practitioners who are passionate about teaching students to read and spell. Our Orton Gillingham instructional approach is sequential, systematic, multi-sensory, and cumulative, and we focus on individual student’s learning needs. Our program ensures that every student has the skills and confidence to succeed in and out of the classroom. We are also excited to share our skills and passion with other teachers through our training opportunities. This is a great opportunity for anyone planning to begin a career in the education field. You will gain exposure to the Orton Gillingham method, which is the highly recommended and research based approach to teaching students with dyslexia to read and spell. The office intern will be responsible for supporting our reading specialists through general office tasks and maintaining our work space. The intern needs to have strong communication skills and attention to detail to be able to assist with our clients and students.

Our internship will offer you the opportunity to: • Observe Master Reading Specialists teach students using the Orton Gillingham method • Become familiar with the specific strategies and targeted materials we implement with individual students • Attend monthly Professional Development Seminars as our guest, receive certificate of attendance Additional Information: • 20 hours per week, mornings and afternoon/evening hours are available • Letter of Recommendation and Certificate of Completion • Ongoing mentorship • Unpaid position

Responsibilities

Responsibilities: • Organize our practice work/student files and materials • Maintain our student library • Monitor the waiting area and keep tidy • Assist with seminar preparation: prepare hand-outs, set-up for presentation • Update our student schedule • Answer phone calls • Post upcoming events on our Facebook page • Keep office supplies stocked

Requirements

Qualifications: • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, self-motivated, flexible • Ability to work with a team • Excellent communication skills • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely fashion • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
