Description

Boys and Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley is an after school youth development non-profit organization catering to the needs of youth ages 6 to 17. We deliver exciting and educational programs to over 4,043 boys and girls each year. The Club is full of promise for young children. Is it a place where kids can play, have fun, experience joy, laugh, and learn about themselves and the larger world they live in. We provide programs that are age-appropriate and developed to instill a sense of competence, usefulness, influence, and belonging among our members. The Club offers programs in five core areas in addition to specialized programs: Character and Leadership, Education and Careers, Health and Life Skills, the Arts, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

Responsibilities

Is responsible for developing, facilitating, and engaging in fun activities with/for members in addition to researching community resources for outcome driven activities. Is responsible for supervision of club members in defined activity spaces, keep general areas neat and organized, and implement positive youth development strategies and practices. Intern(s) will work to support and achieve the Teen Center’s goals and outcomes.

Responsibilities:
Work to achieve the mission of the organization
Commit to a minimum of 12 hours a week for one academic semester or year of service
Design age-appropriate, fun, educational curriculum in basic educational disciplines
Maintains proper organization of copies, files, applications, flyers, etc
Responsible for data entry
Provides input, and reports on successes and challenges
Responsible for maintaining order of equipment and games.
Provide support to teen services director with administration/clerical responsibilities
Supervises & ensures a fun, safe & positive environment for members, physically & environment
Responsible for duties as assigned by supervisor
Assist youth in one or more academic areas, especially math and literacy
Monitor and Assess activities and services to ensure safety of members and quality of activity
Promote and stimulate interest and participation in program activities by members
Support members with any academic and enrichment activities
Build relationships with club members, staff, & parents through interaction & engagement
• Participates as an active, positive team member with members, staff, and supervisor
• Constant movement around recreational areas, involvement with members
• Presence and preparedness for giving youth time and interaction
• Implement disciplinary action in a positive affirming manner

Requirements

Knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint, publisher, and basic office equipment use
Formal Education: Pursuing a college degree with at least one year of education
Ability to relate well with youth ages 12 to 17 and manage groups of them
Willing and be able to plan fun & engaging programs and activities
Ability to be flexible, adaptable and mobile when supervising groups of youth
Friendly, patient, and optimistic
Must demonstrate maturity and good decision-making and be aware of good personal boundaries
Dependable and prompt, Comfortable talking to youth
Ability to work independently and as a team
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work well with youth and persons from diverse backgrounds
Ability to pass a criminal background check
