DescriptionMHz Networks provides international, critically acclaimed television content to US viewers via subscription service, pay-per-view, and broadcast. We are based just outside of Washington, DC, in Falls Church, Virginia. We are seeking interns for the fall semester to work on captioning our programs to be in compliance with FCC regulations to which our distributors must adhere. These internships are ideal for individuals interested in digital media production, wanting to gain experience in learning how programs are readied for viewership.
ResponsibilitiesIntern will assist with the closed captioning process for MHz content. This will include learning captioning standards and conventions, and using them to notate audio descriptions in content episodes. All of our content is already subtitled. Interns will be trained on what to listen for when watching the various episodes and series. Essentially, interns will be watching and listen to our programming to determine the material to be included in captioning.
Hours are part-time but can be somewhat flexible as long as they are within the hours of 8am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Initial training period of the first three days will be less flexible and candidates should prepare to work around the schedule of the trainer for those days. MHz is willing to work with candidates so that they may receive course credit where applicable and if possible.
RequirementsIdeal candidates will be 18 years of age or older and have basic computer skills, familiarity with excel, word and text edit, in addition to English grammar and usage proficiency. Must have excellent listening ability in addition to strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience in digital editing a plus but not required.
