DescriptionPosition Title: Customer Service & Event Intern
Reports to: Events Manager
Location: ECHO at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain on Burlington’s waterfront
Description: ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center is located at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, on Vermont’s Burlington Waterfront. ECHO features 70 live species, more than 100 interactive experiences, changing and permanent exhibits, and seasonal events — all exploring the Ecology, Culture, History, and Opportunity for stewardship of the Lake Champlain Basin.
We offer space to host corporate meetings, birthday parties, overnight camps, holiday parties and weddings, just to name a few. Events will occur throughout the day, after hours and on weekends. Guest Service and Event Interns will assist at our front desk, in our gift shop and help with events at ECHO. Interns will get a complete understanding of our front of the house operations, guest services, groups and event management. Interns will be able to develop customer service skills, work with point of sale computer programs, and assist with event marketing, sales, planning and execution.
Our Guest Service and Event internship offers a challenging and highly rewarding experience for anyone considering a career in event management development, public relations, marketing or non-profit-specific positions. Interns work for a semester with our professional team to develop their skills and knowledge as well as gain information on the Ecology, Culture, History, and Opportunities for stewardship in the Basin.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities may include:
• Assist ECHO’s Event Managers with special event coordination
• Coordinate vendor set up and breakdown
• Ensure a seamless event for the clients and guests
• Work with Event host to ensure that the building is clean and secure at the end of the event
• Learn Front Desk and Gift Shop Operations
One semester commitment: Fall (September-December), Spring (January-May) or Summer (June-August).
Fifteen week commitment with a minimum of 10 to 15 hours a week. Mandatory orientation and departmental training will not be included in the 15 weeks. Ability to work nights and weekends is a must.
RequirementsQualifications: We are seeking a person with good written and verbal communications skills, pleasant telephone manner, and flexible personality. Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with using database applications are desired. Hours vary and some evening work is necessary. Some heavy lifting required. Interns seeking careers in development, public relations, marketing, or non-profit-specific positions will find the most direct benefit from this Internship.
