DescriptionThe National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. The Mid America Chapter offers programs and services to more than 11,000 individuals living with MS and annually raises nearly $5 million to create a world free of MS. The Chapter has four offices including Kansas City; Omaha, NE; Springfield, MO; and Wichita, KS. Internships are available in the following areas: Marketing, Event and Program Planning, Social Work, Volunteer Engagement, Public Relations and Media, Corporate Development, Community Service Research, Public Policy and Advocacy, Community Outreach-Development, Long Term Care Outreach, Self Help Groups, Health and Wellness, and Program Outcomes - Data Quality.
Walk MS connects people living with MS and those who care about them. Walk MS is the rallying point of the MS movement, a community coming together to raise funds and celebrate hope for the future. When you participate in this community event, the funds you raise give hope to the more than 11,000 people living with MS in the Mid America Chapter.
The Special Event Intern will provide assist to Walk MS across the Chapter. The Chapter hosts 29 events in the spring. The initial impact of this position will be to contribute to the growth of Walk MS at the Society. The sustained outcomes will be to increase awareness about the MS Society and fundraising events.
Responsibilities•This position will work directly with the Development Department in order to execute professional, solid, and successful fundraising events.
•Under the supervision of Sr. Development Managers, coordinate logistics for special events such as Walk MS, Bike MS, or Dinner of Champions. (Logistics include but are not limited to: securing event permits, organizing vendor contracts, route details, site maps, rest stops, start/finish locations, etc.)
•Solicit in-kind donations and sponsorships
•Assist in timely and efficient customer service for key contributors, vendors and participants.
•Work with volunteers, committees and staff to ensure on-time completion of projects including event packets that are sent out to participants and team captains.
•Support development staff with inventory and logistics of on and off-site storage.
Requirements•Computer proficiency required
•Posses strong oral and written communication skills
•Excellent customer services skills
•Individuals should possess strong organizational skills and be able to work independently.
•Previous volunteer experience preferred, specifically in event planning
•Must have reliable transportation and current drivers license and insurance
•Some evenings and weekends
