DescriptionAnimal Friends is a non-profit companion animal resource center serving the needs of pets and people for 70 years.
Our progressive programs have been nationally recognized and include humane rescue, shelter and adoption services for homeless pets, humane education, pet behavior classes, pet-assisted therapy, wellness programs and more. In addition, Animal Friends is leading the way towards ending pet overpopulation in western Pennsylvania through comprehensive community-wide spay/neuter programming.
The Special Events intern will gain first-hand experience in event planning and execution in a non-profit setting. The intern will assist with a wide variety of events, both on and off-site. Events may include:
- Mutt Strut
- Pittsburgh Pup Crawl
- Bark in the Dark
- Wine Tasting Events
- Black Tie and Tails
Administrative duties include research, email correspondence, preparing binders of relevant information for each event in a timely manner, keeping supplies organized, etc.
Hands-on duties include setting up for events – set up/take down of folding tables, directing volunteers, placement of event décor, etc. The intern will provide input for the design and décor of events as well as providing suggestions for new events. The intern will also be required to attend all Special Events functions and stay after the events to help the team and volunteers tear down as needed.
The intern will be one of the on-site representatives and a contact person for secondary events – he/she should be able to troubleshoot and problem solve effectively, while maintaining composure around clients, donors, animals and volunteers.
This intern will work with the Special Events Coordinator and volunteers to assure the success of all Animal Friends events.
