DescriptionSeeking a Fabric Design & Décor Production Intern, to help the Creative Services Coordinator of Future Affairs Productions, a company who is in the special events industry. This is great opportunity for hands on learning of the varied use of fabric in the world of Special Events. Even if sewing isn't your focus, this is a unique opportunity to understand inventory management from pulling rentals for shows to creating cost sheets for new projects to maintaining existing product.
We can work with your college to meet the requirements for credit. Hours are 8 - 15 per week with a flexible schedule between 9 - 4, Mon - Friday. Public transpiration is possible to our location from Providence. Work environment is mixed office casual with production in a warehouse. Most work is done in the fabric studio.
The internship is mostly production, but near the office: wear casual office clothes, but able to do physical work in. Such as nice jeans & button shirt or nice sweater, but not office professional. A step above t-shirts, no ripped jeans.
ResponsibilitiesThe work will be varied and cover a large range of commercial Design & Décor applications of Fabric including drape inventory & rental, sewing custom accent pieces, furniture cover design, building tensile structures, repairing existing inventory, and of course cutting & sewing. All work will be directly assisting the Creative Service Co-ordinator.
RequirementsIdeal candidates should have an interest in (and hopefully some working knowledge of):
-Sewing machines and sergers.
-Sewing zippers, hand sewing, hems & ironing
-Estimate yardage & costs
-Knowledge of fabrics, materials and supplies
-Patterns (cutting from and making)
-Familiarity with fabric tensile structures
-Familiarity with furniture design & décor
