Smart Meetings is the leading integrated media company for the meetings, travel and hospitality industry. Our market-leading resources include news and information, a monthly print and digital magazine, educational webinars, venue and destination directories, networking events and site selection tools.

And in the Events Department …
We plan and execute top notch networking events for meeting professionals to connect with hotels, destinations, and convention and visitor bureaus. We recruit and qualify all meeting professional attendees by researching companies within the host location; identifying and contacting their meeting/ event professionals.

You’ll gain experience working with a published media company as well as insight into the travel, hospitality, hotel, meetings and event industries. Depending upon your flexibility and our needs, there is potential for you to enjoy complimentary travel to work with the events team in different event venues throughout the United States. You’ll quickly gain insight and skills on what it takes to be an entrepreneur in today’s world. Compensation of $10 per hour is also available.

Responsibilities

Specific tasks will include …

• Research the newest and most trendy companies as potential event sponsors. Network with contacts at these companies to create and/or maintain event sponsorships.
• Research affordable/fun gifts/amenities for attendees
• A variety of administrative related work to preparing for events
• Assist in house meeting planner and event sales manager on projects and responsibilities as assigned
• Regular maintenance of the registration database
• Track and report inventory on event materials

Requirements

What we are looking for …

A motivated student interested in an internship opportunity that offers a broad introduction to an entrepreneurial business. The student will be exposed to all aspects of the business through the internship but the primary responsibilities will include events support, planning and implementation.

You are a quick thinker with an entrepreneurial attitude; a creative self-starter who is detail oriented and able to work independently and as a part of a team to achieve results. You have excellent verbal and inter-personnel skills and are able to multitask and be flexible.

Some of the responsibilities for the events will include administrative support and possibly onsite support the day/evening of event. Your event or hospitality background is a huge plus. Your experience with social media is also desirable.

This position is on-site only - not virtual.
