Alfred Epps is A CUNY MEC Alum and a Brooklynite. His admiration for sports has turned into a full time virtual gig where he has the benefits of working from home in Brooklyn, New York City as a Social Media Marketing Manager.
1. How did you get started in the industry? How can someone who is interested in your work get started?
I started in the industry by co-running a New York Jets Fan Website www.jetsfan.com. Someone who is interested in this line of work of sports social media marketing should definitely have an overall love of all sports. They go to sleep to SportsCenter and to wake up to SportsCenter.
2. What’s the future of your industry or job?
The future of my industry is about expansion. With the addition of Google+, social media is turning into Mount Rushmore and we all are just working on the next part of integrating social media in to our marketing plans.
3. What do you look for when you hire an intern or entry-level candidate?
The first thing I look for in an intern is someone who just loves sports. When I look at their Twitter/Facebook/Linkedin/Google+ page I want to see sports, either through playing or working in the industry.
4. What is one thing an intern can do to make a favorable impression?
Ask questions. Be energized.
5. Can you share a positive intern story? An intern horror story?
Haven’t had a positive or negative story as of yet.
No positive OR negative intern stories – let’s do something about that! Highlightstube is currently looking for Media Interns, apply here. Thanks, Alfred! If you have more questions for Alfred, leave a comment below or you can find him on Twitter.
